Money

Willy Daniels has become a well-known name in pigeon sport. For several years he was by far the best in Belgium in the short long distance. Booked fairytale performances at the Nationals with only a few pigeons entered. Two of his top pigeons would have been sold for 400,000 € each.
His sensational racers originated from birds from Alfons Hens, Jos Verberck, de Meyer and van Aggelpoel.
Feed for 'name crazy sports friends’. I have some more for them:.

Marcel Wouters

The entire collection of Marcel Wouters is currently going under the hammer. Marcel also raced fantastic, especially with descendants of two iconic pigeons: His ‘Leeuw’ and ‘the Extreem.’ Also fellow fanciers have been 'extremely' successful with those birds.
The pigeon called ‘Extreem’ stems from pigeons from Verdonck, Ghielens, Gabriels, Vermeiren and Brocatus.
‘Extreem’ may be called a famous pigeon. It descends from birds from fanciers who are unknown.

NEW ONES

Lately I received a lot of e-mails from people who start or restart with pigeons. Almost as many as from fanciers who stop for various reasons. Such a beginner wants information about feeding racing pigeons.
I pointed him to a recent report from a National Champion. He thinks all those various mixtures are just silly and does not believe in racing mixture, moulting mixture, diet, breeding mixture, food for youngsters and so on. All his pigeons get the same food all year round.
Same with me !!! And W de Bruijn. And many others !
Why make things difficult when it can be easy? Klak was already for one and the same mixture for all pigeons all year round.

Roger Thijs and son. Belgian best in recent years at long distance?

DOUBT

Then there is that man who wants to start with pigeons, was well informed, was on the internet and was shocked by the enormous amounts of money involved in the sport. “Can you still call this a hobby?” he wonders.
I reminded him that money is no guarantee of success. Very many have even become great champions without spending money on pigeons.
Daniels mentioned earlier bought himself world famous with some pennies for coupons! (bons)
Who played better than Roger Thijs in the last 2 years? He also hardly spent any money on pigeons. Jos Peters, Rudi Diels, Gust Jansen, Marcel Wouters, Maris and Boeckx are just some more examples of those Antwerp residents who became well-known in the sport. And do not forget the late Buvens.
I admit, with money it is easier. But money is no guarantee.
Enormous amounts of money are indeed involved in the sport, but would 1 percent of fanciers have to deal with that? I hardly believe. And those 1% really don't spoil the fun for the other 99%. And they don't dominate the competitions either.
